The general goal in shape analysis is to develop tools for full statistical analysis – statistical averaging and shape classification. An example of this situation arises in shape analysis of 3D objects and depth images. In this talk I will describe recent advances in differential geometry tools for shape analysis. These tools include computation of geodesic distances and comparisons, averaging of shapes. This approach has been applied to face recognition, facial expressions recognition and activity recognition.
